New Visitor Centre at Dean Castle Country Park

[metaslider id=703]Following on from our story in February this year works at the newly refurbished visitor centre at Dean Castle Country Park are now complete.  The works carried out are part of a £4m investment by the Heritage Lottery Fund’s “Parks for People” and the aim is to create a Centre for Educational Excellence and a Visitor Orientation Hub along with a new Centre for Rural Life.

Parks for People funding helps to conserve the heritage that makes historic parks special. And it gives local people a say in how they are managed in the future. Projects improve people’s wellbeing and knowledge of their area, and make communities better places to live, work and visit.

Works on the Centre for Rural Life are still ongoing and expected to be completed before the end of the year so the park can be fully operational for new visitors in the spring 2018.  With the enhanced experience for visitors it is expected that the centre will be key to the ongoing success of the park as a tourist and educational attraction nationwide.

Recent Proteus Industrial Case Study

Following the recent works at Huntershill Sports Centre, Moffat Electrical Services were highlighted in a recent Proteus case study. Moffat Electrical Services Ltd proposed Proteus Industrial Switchgear to electrical consultants Atkins Global UK for the incoming mains supply. The installation consisted of various wall mounting IP3X distribution boards, split load boards and MCCB panel boards, fully fitted with devices, surge protection and metering.

The direct dialogue with the installation contractors established the exact requirements and meant that each board was purpose-made to their exact specifications. The boards then arrived on site fully assembled saving valuable time to the installing engineers. Alan Hay, Estimating Director of the Moffat Group said “We have used Proteus over many years and do so whenever we can. Having the units pre-built at the factory was a great time saver and allowed us to complete all the quicker”.

Moffat Group Goes Continental

Moffat Group was on show during the recent London to Paris charity 300 mile cycle in aid of Alzheimer’s Society.  Our employee John Ferguson finished this challenge in spectacular style.  Pictured in front of the Eiffel Tower emotions were high and John admitted that “The challenge was the toughest, most gruelling challenge that I have every undertaken.  However the people that I met on the journey were an inspiration to keep going as there were plenty of times I felt like giving up!”

During the journey John saw first hand the great work that this charity does for sufferers and reinforced the determination to reach the finish.  It was particularly humbling to meet 2 brothers during the journey who were then met at the Eiffel Tower by their father who is currently receiving support for dementia.

To support John for his efforts pleas click here for his Just Giving link.

Moffat Group Install Pioneering Viega Megapress System

The new Viega Megapress press connection system was specified by design consultants working at the complex site at the Rockvilla centre which is the new headquarters of the National Theatre Scotland (NTS).  The technically advanced system was an ideal solution, allowing the us install a new heating system into the complex site quickly, easily.

The £6.5 million development of the Rockvilla centre will be the headquarters of the National Theatre Scotland (NTS), allowing the theatre group for the first time to have its rehearsal and production activities under one roof. The building will consist of three rehearsal rooms, creative development spaces, a learning and community suite, production workshop, technical store, office space, meeting and social areas.

The Rockvilla centre required the installation of a new heating system within the 3,700 square metre space. For such a complex site, the consultants required a solution that was reliable and would help to reduce installation time.

Installed by Moffat Facilities Ltd in just five months, the system saves up to 60% of assembly time compared to traditional tube connection methods such as welding or threading – both of which can affect the integrity of the tube wall. The Megapress system also provides a clean connection due to its pressing function, meaning there is no excess cutting oil, metal swarf, hemp residue or jointing compound that would be used with traditional methods. Therefore valuable time was saved as the system did not require flushing to remove any residual installation debris.

The installation at the Rockvilla centre required 500 connections of the thick-walled steel fittings ranging from 15mm to 54mm, which was easy to achieve from Viega’s comprehensive selection of fittings ranging from ½” to 2”.

William Giplin, Mechanical Project Engineer at Moffat Mechanical commented on the installation: “Having worked with the system before, we knew just how easy the Megapress would be to use. Using a single press gun, the connections can be achieved in the most confined spaces – completing a full seal in a single press. With the large Rockvilla site and over 500 connections of thick walled steel tube to be made, this was crucial. We are so impressed with the Megapress system that we are continuing to use it on other sites.”
